FAQS

  • For most people, the evidence suggests that having a professional dental cleaning every 6 months (twice a year) is appropriate.
This "twice a year" rule is mainly based on tradition and early studies showing it helps control plaque and prevent gum disease.

However, newer and more detailed evidence says it depends on your individual risk factors:

    • Low risk (healthy gums, no cavities, non-smoker, good hygiene): Every 12 months may be enough. Some studies suggest once a year is just as effective for low-risk people.

    • Moderate risk(some gingivitis, history of occasional cavities, some risk factors like smoking): Every 6 months. It is still a good idea to stay at 6 months.

    • High risk (periodontitis, lots of fillings/crowns, dry mouth, diabetes, heavy smoking): Every 3-4 months. Evidence supports shorter intervals to prevent progression of gum disease.

  • Dental insurance coverage varies depending on your specific plan and provider. Most plans cover a percentage of treatment costs based on the type of procedure—for example, preventive services (like cleanings and exams) are often covered at 80–100%, while major treatments (like crowns or root canals) may be covered at a lower percentage.

We’re happy to help you understand your benefits. As a courtesy, our team can provide a pre-estimate based on your insurance information and submit claims on your behalf. Please keep in mind that any unpaid portion not covered by your plan is your responsibility.

If you have questions about your specific coverage, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly or bringing your policy details to your appointment so we can assist you more accurately.

  • Our fees follow the current BC Dental Association Fee Guide. A standard dental exam and cleaning for adults typically ranges from $250 to $350, depending on the complexity of the cleaning, number of x-rays needed, and whether it's your first visit.

If you have dental insurance, your plan may cover a large portion—or even 100%—of these costs. We’re happy to provide you with a personalized estimate before your appointment and help you understand your coverage.

Feel free to contact us for exact pricing based on your needs. We are happy to submit a pre-determination to your insurance provider for you.
